Restaurants - There are 3 beautiful restaurants at the hotel which are superb, the décor in all 3 are outstanding, as is the food, they are top class gourmet and the service is exceptional. ![]() With the resort credit we had 2 couples massages on the beach which were very good and took place at the Casita and Royale spa areas. We decided that we would use the hotel for the room only, which was fantastic and spent the days at the Royale adult’s only end of the resort. Every English couple we met were also offered the upgrade. We were offered an upgrade on the 3rd day of our 14 day holiday, the first upgrade offer included a $300 resort credit and free Wi-Fi which we declined, but every 3 days we were offered more and more incentives to ‘upgrade’ to this hotel and eventually we accepted $500 resort credit and free Wi-Fi to stay in the hotel for our last 3 nights. We were staying at the El Dorado Royale resort for 2 weeks which is next door but were ‘upgraded’ to the Generations Hotel. For activities, I would highly recommend checking out the Nickelodeon water park (right next door, they can take you over by golf cart) and Rancho Bonanza (reviewed separately). We have just returned from the hotel where we spent 3 nights. They just feel a little more sheltered because their balconies are set back further than the rest. Our kids loved the swim up, but I was glad to be on the end of the floor in a corner room. ![]() If a family is splashing around, chances are they might swim past your area, and you will definitely hear them. This means it is somewhat of a shared space. To crack the code, start counting at “0” for ground level.) The swim-up concept is fun, because the pool runs along the end of everyone’s balcony. (Note: The resort is confusing in how they’ve numbered the floors. Our suite was a swim-up on the second floor. Things felt a bit run-down, but I was told the hotel is actively refurbishing the rooms. The basic room also had its own sofa bed with a dividing wall to create additional sleeping. The combination of living and dining space with kitchenette along with two full baths, and a half-bath made it easy to share the space. The accommodation was a “two bedroom” suite, which is actually a standard room adjoining a king suite. We were travelling with two adults, two kids (tweens) and a senior. However, they work hard to keep the beach itself clean and graded with a tractor every morning. The surf is rough and the destruction of the breakwater system has created a seaweed problem. About the beach: don’t plan on doing a lot of ocean swimming. These Bali beds are first-come-first-served for non-members, but we could reserve for the week. On the beach, we were served by Erbie our beach butler who catered drinks, towels and organised the Bali beds. He assisted in clearing up an unfortunate room assignment (avoid the far side of building 18 if you are looking for peace and quiet). As Exotic members, our service was further enhanced by our concierge Kevin. From the moment we arrived until the moment we left, these two were on the ball and ready to help with anything. We had an excellent team of butlers: Luiz and Gerardo. But what sets Generations apart from other Karisma properties we have experienced is the service. The food was consistently creative and well-prepared. Although there are only a few restaurants, they were all great. ![]() As it turns out, we got lucky! My impression is that this small property punches above its weight. This time we could not stay at the adults only Royale, so we opted for Generations. This trip brought us back to the El Dorado family of resorts after many years.
